Since buttons with buttonholes were not invented until the 13th century in Germany, this shirt features sewn on ribbons instead of a button placket. The sleeves extend straight to the wrist without cuffs, making it suitable to wear underneath a gambeson, where cuffs and puffing can get in the way.
