churburg bascinetThis helmet is a replica of a late 14th century bascinet that forms part of the Churburg armor. Today, the original is housed in the collection of Churburg Castle. Around 1380, a new type of bascinet emerged featuring a distinctive visor. This style is commonly known as the houndskull or pig faced bascinet. The houndskull bascinet not only provided excellent facial protection, but the pointed shape of the visor also helped deflect blows away from the
